Rock Spring’s New Leadership Looks Forward to Growth and Success

We announced earlier this year that Rock Spring added two seasoned professionals to our senior leadership team to help support the company’s growth and expansion plans. Specifically, Bob Milkovich joined Rock Spring as Chief Operating Officer, and Teresa Teare joined as Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel. They round out our existing leadership team with co-owners Nick DeSarno and Sean Keegan, and Chief Financial Officer, Nick Altieri to oversee company operations and future growth through expansion and potential service offerings. We sat down with Bob and Teresa to discuss their first several weeks at Rock Spring, their initial observations, and their visions of growth for the company.

Milkovich, a household name in the construction and commercial real estate industries, brings over thirty-five years of experience to the table. Most recently, he served as the Chief Executive Officer at Rand Construction, where he led expansions of the company’s footprint to Dallas, Houston, and Salt Lake City, in addition to its existing markets. When asked about his approach to leading Rock Spring’s expansions into the Charleston and Atlanta markets, he said, “In my previous roles, we had success following two different models for expansion. The first is where you have a book of business underway and compliment it by putting boots on the ground. The other is a more organic approach, starting from the ground up in a new location.” He added that both approaches include leveraging relationships and a strong reputation to compete in the markets we are entering. Bob envisions that Rock Spring’s growth may look similar and looks forward to applying his experience to ensure the company's success.

Keeping up with our competitors is also top of mind for Bob. “Many of Rock Spring’s biggest competitors are already national companies,” he said, “If we want to stay in the game, we need to have a bigger footprint and have our customers trust that they’ll get the same delivery model in each market.” Teresa adds, “Our model is not just about growing our company, it is about serving our customers’ needs wherever they are.”

Teare brings a different skill set to the table. She is an experienced attorney, who spent her career in a law firm environment. In that role, she served as Rock Spring’s outside counsel for over ten years, witnessing exponential growth throughout that time. As Rock Spring grew, so did the need for legal advice. “Eventually, as the company grew, so did their need for guidance on navigating the intricacies of vast laws and regulations that affect their business and workers throughout the jurisdictions in which they operate. Rock Spring has always been one step ahead in making sure they are compliant with the law and making sure that everyone is treated fairly,” she says.

As far as transitioning to working as in-house counsel, Teresa says that just in her first month here, it is clear being in-house has allowed her to gain a much deeper understanding about the company’s operation. “As outside counsel, you only know as much as your client tells you and that sometimes hinders the ability to provide practical advice. Now, I have much more perspective on the day-to-day,” she says. Teare is excited to contribute her skills and experience to help Rock Spring’s growth and expansion. She reflects, “From my experience as a litigator and defense attorney, I know where things can go wrong, and I can help steer the ship to avoid those problems as the company expands.”

The future that both Bob and Teresa see is a larger footprint while maintaining the same Rock Spring culture that our team, customers, and suppliers have come to know and respect. Throughout our conversation, both commented how excited they are to be part of Rock Spring. When talking about joining our leadership team, Teresa said, “Nick and Sean have this amazing vision and I’m just happy to be witnessing it all come to life. They have built a great company - the leadership and employees have put their heart and souls into this place.” It goes without saying that Bob and Teresa’s future at Rock Spring, and their vision for the company, is extremely bright. We are thrilled to have them as part of our team and know both of their unique experiences will undoubtedly take Rock Spring to the next level.
